Here I thought I would add a list of a few children’s books that I find interesting surrounding either horticulture or ecology.

A shelf of children's books
  • Listen to the Language of Trees: A story of how forests communicate underground. This book is a great choice for any class or student interested in science. It does an amazing job of explaining and illustrating the mycelium networks under our forests.
  • The Nature All Around Series Bugs, birds, trees, and plants. This series is a great starting place to get students interested in plant and animal identification.
  • Mushroom Rain This one is still on my to get list. From the reviews online it seems like it would be an excellent addition to any classroom. It comes with fungi facts and a science activity.
  • The Farm that Feeds Us This is a great book for answering that all important question; Where does our food come from?
  • We are the Gardeners This book is an adorable story of a family starting a garden together. It reminds us that despite mistakes we can all garden.
  • Walking Together This is a beautiful book that speaks to looking to nature as a teacher.
